OTHER ADVENTURES

While I mainly identify as a writer and game designer, I have moved through many different circles. Most of my other work has centered around marketing, community management/outreach, and higher education.

Medical Physics Residency Program Coordinator & Administrative Assistant

As a Radiation Oncology Administrative Assistant on the Anschutz Medical Campus, my responsibilities focused on assisting with all aspects of the department’s business. This included:

  • Managing complex clinical schedules

  • Budgeting department funds for faculty discretionary spending

  • Serving on committees for patient safety and clinical operations

  • Credentialing physicians with state and federal entities

I also served as the program coordinator for the Department of Radiation Oncology’s Medical Physics Residency Program. Responsibilities included:

  • Managing the program’s curriculum alongside the Program Director

  • Enforcing program policies

  • Innovating all aspects of the program, from business operations to marketing

I also provided IT services to the department and spearheaded projects to improve operations. Notable accomplishments in this respect include:

  • Completely rebuilding our department’s website to coincide with a major platform migration. I also maintained the website with edits, additional information, and front-page news items.

  • Pitching and operating a department newsletter to improve communication and community. The newsletter was considered an invaluable tool for team leaders to disseminate information and for everyone in the department to stay connected. As our department spans multiple large medical facilities across Colorado, it brought together teams spanning from the Poudre Valley to Colorado Springs.

  • Designing 3D virtual tours of our facilities for virtual recruitment and other business activities as a result of the COVID pandemic.

SynaptixGames - Marketing & Community Management Intern

During my time with SynaptixGames, I developed marketing and community management strategies and material, while also running the studio's various social media accounts. This included drafting blogs, press releases, and newsletters, while also researching best practices and new avenues for the studio to advertise its products and services.

Community Outreach at CU Denver

While attending CU Denver, I worked for the University Honors and Leadership (UHL) program, one of the nation's top academic honors programs. As the UHL Community Outreach Coordinator, I helped students fulfill the program's community outreach requirements. This included organizing and running events, working alongside global and local non-profit organizations, and advising students. Over the course of my three years there, I organized approximately 2000 hours of community service activities. I also performed a wide array of administrative functions, including recruiting, marketing, event planning, and day-to-day operations.

UHL Graduation, Spring 2017. Here, I am named the UHL Outstanding Graduate in Academic Honors by Program Director Dr. Steven Medema.

Academics

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Colorado. My focus was on Creative Writing (meaning I wrote on game narrative whenever possible) and was trained in technical, business, magazine, and journalistic writing. I also minored in Psychology and Multidisciplinary Research Methods while taking a number of computer science classes (including game design). Upon graduation I was awarded a number of academic honors: University Honors, College Honors, and summa cum laude in my area of study.

In addition to my work for the University Honors and Leadership Program, I was a proud and talented member of it. I was named the UHL Outstanding Graduate in Academic Honors, was featured in a CU Denver Today article on the program, and was awarded the UHL Research Fellows Grant to attend the 2016 Western Regional Honors Council Conference, which I had been invited to in order to present my poem “Selenography.”

In January 2020, I returned to school at Red Rocks Community College to pursue an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Game Development (that’s a mouthful, isn’t it?).
